How to Keep Your Bread Fresh

How to Keep Bread Fresh Without Plastic

Last weekend at a local market, a few familiar faces stopped by my booth just to say how much they loved their reusable bread bag.

As a small handmade business, that kind of feedback means so much! I test every new product myself before adding it to the shop, and when I first started using these bread bags, I was genuinely excited by how well they worked...my bread stayed soft for days, without mold or dryness.

I’m not a huge bread baker myself (I love buying bread from other amazing bakers!), so it’s extra nice to hear from regular bakers that they’re loving the bread bags just as much. One customer even mentioned using theirs as a lunch bag, such a good idea!

Whether your loaf is homemade, fresh from the bakery, or straight from the grocery store, here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your reusable bread bag:

🥖 3 Easy Tips to Keep Bread Fresh

1. Cut Side Down
Place the sliced side of your bread face down inside the bag. This helps prevent the inside from drying out and keeps the crust from getting too soft.

2. Press Out Extra Air
Before rolling the top closed, gently press out any excess air from the bag. Less air = better moisture retention.

3. Use in the Freezer
Yes, your bread bag can go in the freezer! Just pop your loaf in and store for up to a month. It’s great for bulk baking or freezing half a loaf for later.

What Makes Our Bread Bags Work So Well?

Every reusable bread bag we make includes:

  • A soft cotton outer layer

  • A food-safe waterproof liner (PUL)

  • Heat-sealed seams to keep moisture where it belongs

  • A roll-top closure that adjusts to fit your loaf

These features work together to maintain freshness while reducing waste — no plastic wrap, no single-use bags, and no dry bread.

Want to Try One?

If you’re curious about switching to a more sustainable way to store bread, or just want to stop tossing out stale loaves, reusable bread bags are a small change that makes a big difference.
