Reusable Paper Towels: Are They Actually Worth It?

If you’ve been trying to reduce waste in your kitchen, you’ve probably seen reusable paper towels. They look simple enough but are they actually worth switching to or are they just another “eco-friendly” product that ends up unused in a drawer?

What are reusable paper towels?

Reusable paper towels are cloth towels designed to replace single-use paper towel rolls in the kitchen. Instead of throwing them away after one use, you wash and reuse them again and again.

They’re usually made from materials like flannel cotton, bamboo, or absorbent fabric blends and are often used for wiping counters, cleaning spills, drying hands, general kitchen messes and replacing napkins or paper towels in daily routines

The real question: do they actually work?

Short answer: yes, but not in the way people expect.

Reusable paper towels don’t replace every single paper towel perfectly. Instead, they replace the majority of everyday use. We designed ours for everyday kitchen use, as well as cleaning around your home → Shop Reusable Paper Towels

They work best for:

  • small spills
  • daily kitchen cleaning
  • drying hands
  • light messes throughout the day

One thing people don’t always expect is that the flannel fabric actually gets better with use. The more you wash and use them, the more absorbent they become. They soften over time and start to feel even more effective for everyday cleaning.

There are still some situations where a regular paper towel might make more sense, things like heavy grease. Most people naturally keep a small roll for those moments.

But what tends to happen over time is a habit shift. You stop reaching for paper towels automatically and start using reusable ones for most of the everyday messes without thinking about it.

Are they actually worth it financially?

This is one of the biggest reasons people switch.

Paper towels are a recurring expense...you buy them, use them, and replace them constantly. Reusable paper towels are a one-time purchase that can last through hundreds of uses.

While the upfront cost is higher, the long-term use can save you a lot of money over time!

What about convenience?

This is where most people are surprised.

Reusable paper towels work best when they become part of your routine, not a complicated system or a something you have to think about every time.

One of the simplest ways people make the switch is by putting them directly on a paper towel roll. It keeps them visible, familiar, and easy to grab. Unlike some styles that use snaps or buttons, ours are designed to be simple

So, are reusable paper towels worth it?

They are worth it if:

  • you want to reduce single-use paper towel use

  • you like simple, practical swaps (not complicated systems)

  • you’re willing to adjust small habits in your kitchen

They may not be worth it if:

  • you expect them to behave exactly like disposable paper towels in every situation

  • you’re not interested in changing any part of your routine

For most people, the reality falls somewhere in the middle:
they don’t eliminate paper towels completely, but they significantly reduce how often you reach for them.

Reusable paper towels aren’t about perfection. They’re about reducing waste in a way that still feels realistic in everyday life. And once they’re part of your kitchen routine, it’s surprising how rarely you think about paper towel rolls anymore.
